How to Prepare Your Vehicle for Detailing

Getting your vehicle detailed should be a smooth, stress-free experience. The better prepared your vehicle is before your appointment, the more efficient the process will be - and the better results you’ll get.

This guide will walk you through exactly what to expect and how to prepare your vehicle properly before your detail with Sharp Detailing.

Before Your Appointment

We ask that all customers remove personal items from their vehicle prior to arrival. This includes:

  • Items in seats, floors, and door pockets

  • Center consoles and glove compartments

  • Trunks and cargo areas

  • Child seats (if possible)

If personal items are left in the vehicle, we can remove them for you, but there will be a $50 cleaning/prep charge. Additionally, if consoles or compartments are not emptied, those areas will be skipped during the service.

Child seats can be removed by our team if needed, but due to liability, we cannot reinstall them. We also offer child seat cleaning for $40 per seat.

Vehicle Condition & Additional Charges

Not all vehicles are in the same condition, and certain factors may require additional time and cost. These include:

  • Excessive pet hair (starting at $40, may increase depending on severity)

  • Mold, biohazards, or vomit

  • Heavily soiled interiors or excessive buildup

Vehicles in more severe condition may require upgrading to an In-Depth Reset rather than a standard Executive Reset. We always recommend being upfront about your vehicle’s condition so we can properly prepare and give accurate expectations.

How Long It Takes

Detailing is not a quick process. Depending on the condition and service selected, you should plan for approximately:

  • 4 to 8 hours for most services

We offer flexible scheduling, including drop-off and pick-up at agreed times. In some cases, we may also be able to assist with vehicle pick-up and delivery.

Exterior Preparation

No exterior prep is required before your appointment. In fact, we prefer that you leave the vehicle as-is so we can properly assess and treat it.

The only exceptions:

  • Removing items like roof racks or accessories that may block access

  • Cleaning out truck beds or tailgates if you want those areas serviced

Interior Preparation Guidelines

To ensure the best results and avoid any issues:

  • Remove valuables or sensitive items

  • Remove anything you do not want handled

  • Empty all compartments and storage areas

This helps us work efficiently and ensures nothing important is misplaced or damaged.

Services & Upgrades

You are welcome to select your services ahead of time, but it is not required.

When we arrive, we perform a full inspection of the vehicle and may recommend upgrades based on condition. This ensures you get the best possible outcome for your vehicle.

Mobile & Shop Appointments

We offer both mobile detailing and shop-based services for your convenience. You can choose the option that works best for your schedule and needs.

Weather Considerations

For mobile appointments, weather can occasionally impact scheduling. We may need to reschedule if:

  • Heavy rain prevents us from working properly

  • Temperatures drop below freezing

If this happens, we will communicate promptly and get you rescheduled as soon as possible.

Payment & Cancellation Policy

  • Payment is due upon completion of the service

  • Cancellations within 24 hours of your appointment are subject to a $50 fee

Final Thoughts

Proper preparation helps us deliver the highest level of service while saving time and avoiding unnecessary delays.

The best customers are the ones who:

  • Empty their vehicle ahead of time

  • Communicate the condition honestly

  • Trust the process and recommendations

If you follow these guidelines, your detailing experience will be seamless - and your vehicle will get the level of care it deserves.
